Manager: Playing top-class French sides will be a massive benefit

By: Paul Cuddihy on 10 Jul, 2020 15:01

  • CELTIC will continue their pre-season preparations with three tough matches against top-quality French sides – Nice, Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain.

Neil Lennon’s side have been on a training camp at Loughborough University in England this week, but will head out to France next week for the games.

And the Celtic manager believes that these fixtures will be beneficial for his squad ahead of the Scottish Premiership season kicking off at the beginning of August.

Speaking to Celtic TV, the Irishman said: “We’re playing against quality opposition, which is fantastic in terms of match fitness, players getting their old instincts back and, obviously, formation-wise and tactics-wise.

“Physically it’s going to be a real test for us as well, so we’ve got to really treat it as if they’ve been out injured for a while. They’ve done their rehab, they’re now coming back into full fitness, so these games are going to be really beneficial to what we want to do for the season.

“It’s brilliant for us all, the staff as well. We’re excited and I feel that the quality of the opposition is fantastic. The other side of it is getting used to playing behind closed doors.

“The players have to adapt to that environment. It’s totally different from what they’ve been used to, obviously, and the more we can practice at that, the better they’ll adapt to it.”
