  • Greg Taylor: PSG will be tough but we’ll enjoy the opportunity

Greg Taylor: PSG will be tough but we’ll enjoy the opportunity

By: Joe Donnelly on 21 Jul, 2020 11:31

  • LIKE team-mate Mohamed Elyounoussi, Greg Taylor is savouring the chance to go toe-to-toe with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain this evening (Tuesday), as the Hoops prepare for their final pre-season encounter in the French capital.

Tonight’s showdown follows Saturday’s well-contested 2-1 defeat to Lyon and Thursday’s equally hard-fought 1-1 draw with Nice in the Veolia Trophy exhibition tournament.

In the latter game, Taylor played 60 minutes, having played 30 in the former. Now, the 22-year-old is looking forward to more minutes against one of the strongest teams in world football.

“The games in Lyon were good tests,” said Taylor in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV. “I think over the course, most of players got 90 minutes. That’s beneficial for us – whether that was a 30/60 or a 60/30 split in each game.

“We got minutes in our legs and it was two good tests for us. Certainly in the 60 minutes I play in against Nice, I thought there were some good performances, individually and as a team I thought we looked pretty at it. Hopefully we can take that into the next few games.”

Taylor hailed Celtic’s training over the course of pre-season, and stressed this is the only way they can prepare for the season ahead and for playing teams of PSG’s calibre.

He added: “The intensity has picked up at training over the last few days. The closer you get to the start of the season and the Champions League qualifiers, then the intensity does ramp up. We’re working hard and we’re well aware it’s going to be a stiff test against Paris Saint-Germain. But that’s another good challenge for us.

“PSG will be a good opportunity for us. It’s going to be a tough test and we’re under no illusions about that, but it’s also one we’re looking forward to. Again, it’s more minutes into the legs in pre-season and, again, it’s going to be a tough test.”
