Summer Green: Hoops hoping to kick off the new season with a win

By: Paul Cuddihy on 17 Oct, 2020 18:31

  • THE Scottish Women’s Premier League season kicks off this Sunday (October), and Celtic FC Women face a tough opening fixture against reigning champions, Glasgow City. However, the Hoops will go into the game full of confidence, having beaten City in their two most recent meetings.

And for American striker, Summer Green, the prospect of getting back out on to the pitch to play in a competitive match is one she and her team-mates are looking forward to.

“We’re so excited,” she said. “It’s just to have the opportunity to start playing again, and also to play a great team like Glasgow City. I know everyone is absolutely stoked to get going, and hopefully not as crazy weather conditions as it was before back in February, with all the crazy wind and rain that we played in. But we’re just very excited about the game.

“We’ve had a great pre-season so far but as it progresses, just to see really what we’ve got in terms of our potential.

“Glasgow City are obviously a great team and they deserve respect, and the best way to respect a team like that is to come out with the best players that you have, Everyone in the squad is ready to go, and I just think it’s going to be such a hard-working mentality. Regardless of the previous game, that’s done, and moving forward, we just want to come out and do our best.”

Similar to the men’s game, all games in the Scottish Women’s Premier League will be played behind closed doors.

But you can watch Celtic take on Glasgow City this Sunday, October 18 LIVE on BBC Alba. The game, at Broadwood Stadium, kicks off at 4.10pm.
