Brown ready for Battle of the Greens

IF anyone in the Celtic squad knows about Hibernian´s Hampden heartbreak it’s Scott Brown, but he´s feeling no sympathy for his former club ahead of this weekend´s Scottish Cup final.

As part of the Edinburgh side, Brown lost to Livingston in the League Cup final in 2004. But having spent eight years at the club in total, he also understands how desperate they are to end 111 years without the Scottish Cup in their trophy cabinet.

It was 10 years ago today...

IT was 10 years ago today, on May 21, 2003, that Celtic took on Porto in the UEFA Cup final at the Estadio Olimpico in Seville. It was the club’s first European final in 33 years.

It had been an incredible European campaign for Martin O’Neill’s side, from the disappointment of being knocked out at the qualifying stage of the UEFA Champions League by FC Basel, right through to the dramatic final against Porto.

Manager: Our fans were second to none in Seville

NEIL Lennon remains extremely proud to have been part of the Celtic squad which reached the UEFA Cup final. That’s not to say there are still moments when he thinks ‘What if…’ It’s a thought which has crossed the mind of every player involved in that European campaign, along with Celtic supporters throughout the world.

Yet, with the 10th anniversary of what has become known simply as ‘Seville’ coming tomorrow, May 21, the former midfielder, now manager of Celtic and winner of two consecutive league titles, believes it was a great achievement by the club.
