CELTIC’S Under-15 side retained the prestigious Foyle Cup in Derry with a penalty shoot-out victory over Hearts in the final after the game had finished 1-1.
The young Hoops were in impressive form throughout the tournament, which featured 32 teams from the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Coached by Michael O’Halloran, Celtic won all six games, scoring 15 goals and conceding just one – and that came in the final. And they were worthy winners of the trophy for the second consecutive year.
Michael O’Halloran said: “The boys were totally professional in their approach to every game and it was remarked upon by other teams.
“We thoroughly deserved to win the tournament with our attacking football, while defensively we were impressive, only conceding the one goal.
“And Jason McGrath finished as the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals, winning the Golden Boot.
“The boys were a credit to the club, the Youth Academy and their parents, and for Celtic to retain the Foyle Cup is a fantastic achievement.
“And I would also like to thank our backroom team of Rab Thomson, Mick Murphy and Frank Gilroy for their help throughout the tournament.”
