celtic welcomes fixture clarification

Newsroom Staff
CELTIC have today welcomed the Scottish Premier League’s confirmation of the re-arranged date for the match against Rangers at Celtic Park, which will take place on Wednesday, April 16. The club also understands that its match against Motherwell is set to be confirmed.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We’re glad that the fixtures have been confirmed and are pleased that our game against Rangers has been set for Celtic Park on April 16. It is also likely that our match against Motherwell will be played on April 12 at Fir Park.

“We clearly sympathise with the inconvenience supporters have experienced this season due to fixture cancellations and re-scheduling.

“I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank both Iain Blair and Lex Gold for all their efforts during this difficult period.

“They have had a very testing time and we appreciate all they have done in trying to re-schedule matches. Thankfully it seems the integrity of the League will not be threatened by playing any more games away from home stadia or by extending the season.

“Clearly, an extension is something which we would be strongly opposed to, as it would further inconvenience supporters and could have a significant effect on the integrity of the competition.

“I would also sincerely thank the Celtic supporters for their patience at this time. I thank our fans for their continued support and ask them once again to get right behind the team for the title run-in.”
