FIFTY young people are to perform a specially choreographed dance performance on the hallowed turf at Celtic Park this weekend.

In an exciting and unique project, Celtic Football Club is delighted to support the Celtic World Dance initiative in conjunction with Celtic Learning.

The aim of the project is to promote the positive message of cultural diversity through a wide range of dancing styles including, hip hop, Irish, Bollywood, Highland and Street Dancing.

Celtic World Dance has been delivered to over 90 Glasgow schools, already reaching 20,000 young people to date.

Lessons were put together by qualified dance instructors, including students from Motherwell College, in collaboration with Celtic Learning.

Local youngsters from Glendale Primary School and Sir John Maxwell Primary School have also been participating in the programme since October of last year, and as a thank you for their hard work and commitment, Celtic Football Club is allowing the children to perform their routine and show what they have learned from the initiative in front of the 60,000-strong Celtic support.

This spectacular grand finale will take place at half-time during the game against Hibernian this Sunday, May 11 (kick-off 12.30pm).

Tony Russell, Education Co-ordinator and Head of Celtic Learning, said: “As a club open to all, the Celtic World Dance project promotes the important message of cultural integration in a positive and fun way.

“This teaches young people to respect the variety of cultures in our society whilst promoting alternative ways of keeping fit.

“It is great to see that their dedication to this project has been recognised and I am delighted that the club has given the programme its full and continued backing.”
