celtic appoint new development director

Newsroom Staff
CELTIC Football Club are delighted to announce the key appointment of Jason Hughes (36) as Director of International Development.

Celtic's Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: "In recent years Celtic have enjoyed considerable commercial success internationally through a range of activities and the club has enjoyed greatly increased presence and profile on a world stage.

“We are delighted that this has matched our on-field success, with the delivery of three consecutive titles and significant progress in a European context.

"Celtic has become one of the best supported football clubs globally, with millions of supporters following the club.

“While we have enjoyed considerable overseas commercial development, through this key appointment we now look forward to taking this to a new level. We will aim to take advantage of the huge potential which exists for the Club and will work towards making Celtic one of football's biggest global brands.

"With this ever increasing interest in Celtic at an international level, this new position seeks to maximise all global commercial and business development opportunities, promoting the great Celtic story overseas, with the aim of generating increased revenue and ultimately producing further football success for our supporters.

“Jason is a highly regarded individual and someone we are sure will be an excellent addition to our team.

“He will work closely with Adrian Filby, our new Commercial Director, to ensure that there is a common direction in delivering the commercial objectives of Celtic Football Club.”

Jason added: “It is a tremendous honour to join a cub of Celtic’s great history and stature. This is an opportunity and challenge which I am looking forward to immensely and one where I aim to do all I can to ensure that Celtic realises its huge global potential, with the principal objective of bringing further success to the club.”

Jason achieved notable success, and accumulated extensive international experience, in his previous role as Deputy General Secretary of CONCACAF, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football, the governing body for football in that region with 40 member nations.

He has also served on two FIFA Committees and previously worked in International Relations at the Football Association.

Jason will join Celtic in late September 2008.
