  • Natalie Ross the latest recruit for Celtic’s women’s team

Natalie Ross the latest recruit for Celtic’s women’s team

By: Newsroom Staff on 14 Jan, 2016 11:46

  • CELTIC women’s team manager David Haley is delighted to have signed midfielder Natalie Ross.  The highly talented 26-year-old has been on the manager’s wish list for some time and is his seventh close-season signing.

Natalie had a very successful season in the Hoops in 2012 when she was one of the outstanding players in the Scottish Women’s Premier League.  She was tempted to further her career at Lewes in England, however, and left in November that year.

Starting her career aged nine with Ellon Meadows as the only girl in the boys’ club, she joined Hibs in 2005.  She attracted the attention of Arsenal in 2008 and she enjoyed what she describes as a ‘wonderful’ time there playing with the likes of Julie Fleeting before a serious injury put her out of football for some time.  She resumed her career with Hibs in 2011 before moving to Celtic.

Already an U19 international, Natalie won her first full Scotland cap against The Netherlands at the 2008 Cyprus Women’s Cup.

She told the official Celtic website:  “Celtic have signed exciting new players such as Kerry Montgomery, Kirsty Howat and Steph Knox, and I am really looking forward to playing alongside them.

“I hope I’ll be able to help the club win trophies including the league championship and play in the Champions League.”

Manager David Haley added:  “I have wanted to sign Natalie for a while now, and I’m excited that she has agreed to join us.

“She will add steel and determination to our midfield and her huge experience will help our young, talented players to develop.  No opponent will look forward to playing against her.

“We have retained almost all of last season’s squad and the seven recent signings will make the squad much stronger for the new season and competition for places will be fierce.”
