  • CELTIC manager Ronny Deila has welcomed new signing Dedryck Boyata to the club and said he is looking forward to working with the new Bhoy.

The first signing of the summer transfer window has arrived hot on the heels of a fantastic show of support by tens of thousands of Celtic fans who beat the deadline to renew their Season Tickets before last Friday’s deadline.

And the boss of the Champions has spoken of his delight that his plans to build his squad in preparation for UEFA Champions League qualification are already taking shape.

The manager stated that the Belgian internationalist is a talented player and exactly the type of defender we are looking for.  Deila also revealed that the 24-year-old defender, who joined the Champions on Tuesday on a four-year deal from Manchester City, was a long-term target for the club.

Speaking exclusively to the official Celtic website, the manager said: “I’m really looking forward to working with Dedryck and I’m very happy he has signed for us as he had other offers.

“He is a talented player who is quick, good with the ball at his feet and is strong at the back so he is exactly the type of defender we were looking for.

“I have known of Dedryck’s qualities for some time and we actually inquired about him last year but the move didn’t materialise so we are particularly happy to finally have him at the club and I am looking forward to working with him.

“He’s at a good age to develop at Celtic over the next four years and crucially, I think he’ll make us stronger as we prepare to try and defend our title as Scottish champions.  “Domestically, he’s used to the British game so he will adapt to the game in Scotland quickly. And, of course, he has great pedigree having played in the English Premier League while training and playing with some of the best strikers in European football at Manchester City.

“It shows the level of our ambitions for Celtic. He is an important signing for us as we prepare to try and qualify for the Champions League group stages.”

With Dedryck Boyata signed and thousands of Celtic supporters also signed up for another season, you can now pledge your support for Ronny Deila as he prepares his squad for next season.
