    Collins salutes 'incredible' Craig Gordon

By: Mark Henderson on 24 Mar, 2015 11:01

  • JOHN Collins says Craig Gordon’s incredible consistency between the sticks has boosted belief throughout the rest of Celtic’s treble-chasing side.

The 32-year-old has been a stunning success since joining the Bhoys on a free transfer in the summer, immediately rediscovering top form after spending over two years on the treatment table.

His polished performances for the champions prompted a full Scotland recall and a first cap in four years against England in November.

While competition is fierce in the goalkeeping department for Gordon Strachan’s side, Gordon is pushing hard to take ownership of the No. 1 jersey side for this week’s friendly against Northern Ireland and the European Championship qualifier with Gibraltar.

Speaking to the official Celtic website, the Hoops' assistant manager said: “Craig’s been an incredible signing. In all honesty, he’s surprised and amazed everyone, not that he’s a great goalkeeper, but that’s he came back so quickly to what he was before after being out for over two years. From his first game, he has never looked like he has been away.

“He’s so calm, composed and is assured, and he just spreads confidence throughout the boys in front of him. He’s a great example on the training pitch.

"He’s always trying to get better and always watching videos of himself with Woodsy, assessing his performance and seeing how he could better.

“And that’s someone that is 32. Goalkeepers can go on 'til their 40, so hopefully he has plenty of years left. He is lean and fit and week in, week out, he plays to a very high standard.”
