New home will give Celtic Women's team a platform for season ahead

By: Newsroom Staff on 13 Mar, 2015 21:45

  • IT’S a new beginning for the Celtic Women’s team this weekend when they play their first game at their new permanent home - the K-Park Training Academy in East Kilbride.

The Hoops take on Hibernian this Sunday (KO: 2pm) looking for a win in the Battle of the Greens, having already kicked off their campaign with an emphatic 8-0 victory over Hearts in the Premier League Cup two weeks ago.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We have made some really exciting changes to our women’s team and brought in some great new players.

“We are also delighted to be able to announce K-Park as the permanent home ground for the team. This will provide a renewed focus and structure to our team and everything they do and hopefully ensure that we can continue to challenge at the highest levels.

“We are sure these latest developments will deliver a bright future for our women’s and girls’ teams. We are all right behind them as they now bid to make their mark and bring success to the Club.”

And ahead of this Sunday’s League Cup final against Dundee United at Hampden, Ronny Deila took time out to send his best wishes to the Celtic Women’s team for the season ahead.

The Hoops boss said: “We are all fully supportive of our women’s team and hope that they enjoy an exciting and successful season.

“We will be giving the team every support and hope they can bring as much success as possible to Celtic.”

The K-Park Training Academy is a new state-of-the-art facility which has been built and is maintained by the East Kilbride Community Trust. The sporting venue meets the standards set by FIFA and SFA and has a full size 11-a-side 3G pitch as well as a seven-a-side pitch.
