Scott Brown bags Scottish Cup Player of the Round award

By: Joe Sullivan on 28 Feb, 2011 13:47

  • SCOTT Brown has picked up the Scottish Cup Player of the Round award following a terrific performance against Rangers at Ibrox, capped by his tremendous equalising goal to tie the game at 2-2 for the 10-man Hoops. The replay, of course, goes ahead at Celtic Park this Wednesday night

The Celtic captain said: “I’m very pleased. It was a great moment in a great game and a great experience but it’s not just me that deserves it, it’s all the lads.

“The game could have gone either way. Rangers went 1-0 up then hit the crossbar but we came back into the game a lot and were a wee bit unlucky with the sending off.

“But when we lost the man, I think we played the better football and we looked like we had 11 men on the park by the end of the game.”

And he said of the goal-scoring experience: “It was great. It was a good goal and I’ve never scored at Ibrox before so that goal means a lot, that’s for sure.”

The sides go into battle once more on Wednesday at Celtic Park following the Hoops’ 3-0 SPL victory over the Ibrox side, and Brown thinks the supporters can expect more excitement in the fifth derby meeting of the seven that will be played this season.

He added: “Just expect what we’ve had already. We’ve played them four times previously this season and every single match has had a wee twist here and there, so there’s always a twist in these games."

The immediate prize for the winners is progress to the quarter-final and a tie against Inverness Caley Thistle, but Brown is looking beyond that after the Hoops unexpectedly lost to Ross County in last season’s semi-final.

He said: “That will spur us on. I’ve never won the Scottish Cup so it means a lot to us if we can go all the way.”
