  • Mulgrew's praise as captain joins 300 club

Mulgrew's praise as captain joins 300 club

By: Kenny McKay on 22 Dec, 2014 11:59

  • CHARLIE Mulgrew has praised the quality of Scott Brown after the Celtic captain made his 300th appearance for the club in the weekend game at Tannadice.

While the result against Dundee United was not the one that the Hoops were hoping for, Mulgrew insists nothing should take away from Brown’s achievement.

And Mulgrew explained that such a career milestone is only reached by the very best players.

He told the official Celtic website: “Scott has done really well since he arrived at Celtic. A lot of those 300 appearances have been as captain as well, which is a big achievement.

“You can understand why a player of his quality has played this many games for Celtic.”

Brown was first brought to Paradise by Gordon Strachan in the summer of 2007 and was appointment club captain two years later by Strachan’s successor Tony Mowbray.

Since then, he has helped lead Celtic to three league titles in a row, alongside two Scottish Cups and one League Cup triumph.

And, having recently signed a new four-year deal that ties him to the club until 2018, Mulgrew believes Brown will continue to bring success to Paradise.

He added: “I’m sure there’s plenty more to come from Scott and I can only wish him all the best for the future.”

The Celtic View Christmas Special has a superb GIANT A2 poster of Scott Brown doing what he does best – The Broony – and the poster details the 300-appearance landmark for the Celtic skipper.
