  • Be there to welcome Naka back to Paradise

Be there to welcome Naka back to Paradise

By: Newsroom Staff on 12 Dec, 2014 13:34

  • THE Tokyo Celtic Supporters' Club may have been founded in 2001 but if one man is responsible for Celtic Football Club being a household name in Japan, it’s Shunsuke Nakamura.

Naka signed for the Hoops in 2005 after a three-year spell in Italy with Reggina, and went on to spend four illustrious years in Paradise, winning three league titles under boss Gordon Strachan.

This Sunday, December 14 we welcome back the midfield genius of whom former Spurs captain, Steve Perryman was once quoted as saying “could open a tin of beans with his left foot”.

It’s Naka’s first return to Celtic Park and is a great opportunity for fans to acclaim the man who, amongst other notable strikes, scored the goal that clinched the league title at Rugby Park in 2007.

Shunsuke made 157 appearances for the Bhoys (plus nine from the bench) and netted on 33 occasions. Most fans will remember his sensational free-kicks against Manchester United at both Old Trafford and Celtic Park, or possibly his swerving volley against Rangers in a 2-1 win.

Other highlights include a perfectly executed chip against Dundee United at Celtic Park and a sensational hat-trick against the same side at Tannadice.

Whatever your favourite memory of Naka’s time in the Hoops, make sure you’re there to give him a special welcome in Paradise this Sunday when St Mirren are the visitors.
