Manager: No sleep but same dream - winning it all

By: Martin Dalziel on 28 Nov, 2014 13:32

  • RONNY Deila still doesn’t get much sleep after European nights but he wakes up from the same dream every morning – winning absolutely everything.

Celtic progressed to the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League last night after a favourable result between FC Astra and Dinamo Zagreb cancelled out FC Salzburg’s 3-1 victory over the Hoops at Paradise.

That game will be quickly followed by a fourth round Scottish Cup clash against Hearts at Tynecastle this Sunday, and if the Bhoys are successful there then they will be in four competitions beyond Christmas.

Winning all of them is the dream, but the Hoops boss knows there is work to be done to make that a reality.

He said: “Every time I wake up in the morning I see it in front of me and that’s the goal - to win everything and I think the players are doing that too.

“We have to think about what we’re going to do and how we’re going to achieve it. We can talk about results but we have to do the job, and that starts every day in training and how we prepare for every game and training.”

Celtic were caught on the hop last night (Thursday) by a FC Salzburg side who scored two early goals and a late sucker-punch to ensure they will finish top of Group D.

The Celtic manager knows his side will need to be more alert when they take on a Hearts side who haven’t lost a game since the last time they met the Bhoys, in a League Cup tie at Celtic Park back in September.

He said: “Hearts like to pass the ball. I like the way they play and the way they have developed the team.

“The youngsters are coming up and they’ve had time to do that. They used the year to get a new team in play and I expect them to play their own game and try to win the game.”
