  • Tony Watt signs for Standard Liege

Tony Watt signs for Standard Liege

By: Newsroom Staff on 28 Jul, 2014 20:54

  • TONY Watt has joined Standard Liege, signing a five-year contract with the Belgian side.

The 20-year-old spent nearly three years at Celtic, joining from Airdrie United in January 2011. He made his debut against Motherwell at Fir Park in April 2012, coming off the bench to score two goals.

He made a total of 34 appearances for the Hoops, scoring eight goals. His most famous goal came on November 7, 2012, when he scored the winning goal in a memorable 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

Tony spent most of last season on loan at Belgian side, Lierse, though he returned to Celtic for pre-season. He made his final appearance for the club last weekend, in the pre-season friendly against St Pauli in Hamburg.

Everyone at Celtic would like to thank Tony for his contribution to the club’s success over the past three years, and we wish him every success in his future career with Standard Liege.
