    Academy confirm first summer signing

By: Mark Henderson on 20 May, 2014 17:04

  • THE Celtic Youth Academy have bolstered their goalkeeping department for next season following the signing of 16-year-old Conor Hazard from Cliftonville.

An internationalist for Northern Ireland at youth level, the promising shot-stopper will add further competition to this area of the team when joining in the summer.

No further acquisitions have been completed for the Professional Academy at present, with Head of Youth, Chris McCart, keen to free up space for those progressing through the ranks.

“One player we are bringing in is Conor Hazard, the Northern Ireland U16 goalkeeper who plays with Cliftonville – we have agreed with Cliftoville to take him and signed him,” McCart told the official Celtic website.

“It gives us an excellent batch of young goalkeepers, with Ross Doohan coming up from the Academy, Conor coming in and Colin McCabe, while we are hoping to sign Leo Fasan on a professional contract this summer.

“The rest will be coming up through the Academy but we have left three or four spaces for recruitment if we feel players will raise the bar regarding the standard of the Academy.”
