Celtic Park WiFi wins prestigious UK award

By: Newsroom Staff on 05 Apr, 2014 11:20

  • CELTIC Football Club’s hugely successful implementation of a full-stadium, high-density WiFi network has achieved prestigious recognition of the service it is now delivering to supporters on a matchday.

On Friday afternoon, Celtic and our partners in the WiFi deployment, Sports Revolution, scooped the award for Best Support Technology for Fans at the Sports Technology Awards in London.

Celtic Park launched the new service in October, the first full-stadium WiFi network with dedicated matchday entertainment app in the UK and only the second system of its kind in European football.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: "It´s a fine achievement by all of the team at Celtic and our partners at Sports Revolution, who have worked so hard to make this service a reality for our supporters.

“To get this kind of recognition after just six months underlines the strides we are making in digital communication. It is pleasing to have received this recognition and our commitment to improving the matchday experience at Celtic Park will continue in the months ahead."

Simon Hills, Commercial Director, Sports Revolution, added: "We are hugely proud of our partnership with Celtic and Cisco and we are delighted to have received this award at such an early stage in our development of the service we are providing at Celtic Park."

The CelticLive app is available to download on IOS and Android platforms and new content is currently being developed with the app itself updated only this week with new features.

The award win comes in the same week that Celtic became the first Scottish Club to crash through a million fans on Facebook.
