  • Quality tale of a Quality Gang

Quality tale of a Quality Gang

By: Newsroom Staff on 11 Nov, 2013 14:20

  • On May 25, 1967, Celtic defeated Internazionale of Milan 2-1 in Lisbon’s Estadio Nacional Stadium to win the European Cup. It was a remarkable transformation for a club which had finished eighth in the league just two years before.

Yet, even as the legend of the Lisbon Lions was being written, a group of young players was waiting in the wings at Celtic Park, eager to push their way into the first-team and replace the men who had made footballing history.

Some of those youngsters would go on to become legends in their own right, such as Kenny Dalglish, Danny McGrain and Davie Hay, others like George Connelly and Vic Davidson wouldn’t quite fulfil the extraordinary potential displayed in their formative football years.

And there were also players who came close to fulfilling their Celtic dreams, but who couldn’t quite make that small step, but giant leap, into the first-team

This group was known collectively as The Quality Street Gang, and were arguably the finest collection of talented young footballers ever to come through the ranks at Celtic.

A new book by Paul John Dykes tell the remarkable story of The Quality Street Gang, and it´s out now.
