  • Paradise remains a unique football arena

Paradise remains a unique football arena

By: Newsroom Staff on 02 Oct, 2013 12:39

  • THE eyes of the football world were on Celtic Park on Tuesday night, and once again the Celtic supporters showed why the stadium holds a unique place in the game.

Neil Lennon’s side produced a brave performance against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, and only lost 1-0 to a late goal, having been reduced to 10 men.

And the atmosphere at Paradise, from the moment the teams came out to be greeted by a stunning fans’ display, right through to the final whistle, the Celtic support showed how to back the team in the right way, regardless of the result.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: "I would like to sincerely thank all our supporters for making last night´s match against Barcelona such a special event.

“Yet again, our fans provided an atmosphere unrivalled in football and an occasion which demonstrated to the world all that is great about our club and our fans.

“We enjoy a special relationship with FC Barcelona and once again the visiting Barcelona directors have applauded our fans for their huge contribution.

"The way our supporters recognised the contribution of Andres Iniesta showed real class and was something appreciated by FC Barcelona.

"The players gave their all to secure a result and it is clear we were unfortunate not to get something from the match. However, our performances so far give us real hope for the rest of the group stages and we look ahead with confidence.

"Celtic is proud to be representing Scottish football in the Champions League. We will continue to work hard to achieve results in the group, and we will do so with the backing of a magnificent support."
