Manager: Dylan will fly home with team

By: Mark Henderson on 12 Aug, 2012 16:56

  • DYLAN McGeouch´s serious-looking head injury overshadowed Celtic´s 2-0 defeat to Spanish champions Real Madrid in Philadelphia yesterday.
The midfielder lay motionless on the pitch after a horrific clash with Nuri Sahin in the 72nd minute of the match.
For six minutes play was halted as the teenager received medical treatment before being taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured jaw.
And there was no one was more concerned at the player´s well-being than his manager Neil Lennon.
Speaking to the official website, the Irishman gave the latest update on McGeouch´s condition, and there was some positive news: he will be able to fly home to Glasgow with the team tonight.
"He is coming back with us which is great news," said the Hoops boss. "He needs a plate inserted in his jaw and I think he may made need an extraction of a tooth which has been damaged.
"Thankfully there are no neck or head injuries. It was very similar to the injury Henrik had when he broke his jaw against Livingston that day. So we might be looking at four to six weeks.
"Obviously it´s a blow but it could have been a lot worse and he´s a young lad who will recover quicker than most. He had a stable night in hospital, and thankfully he is coming home with us today."
