  • Robbie Thomson agrees new deal with Celtic

Robbie Thomson agrees new deal with Celtic

By: Mark Henderson on 13 Jan, 2012 10:22

  • YOUNG shot-stopper Robbie Thomson has spoken of his delight after agreeing a new two-and-a-half year deal with the club.

Having being with Celtic since the age of nine, the 18-year-old was thrilled to preserve his stay in Paradise.

But he was also adamant that the new contract wouldn’t impact on his focus on working hard and developing his game.

It’s been that attitude and commitment which has seen him progress to his current position from the very bottom of the Academy pyramid while others have fallen by the wayside.

Now that he’s on the cusp of the first-team squad, he told the Celtic matchday programme for Saturday´s Dundee United match in an exclusive interview that he was more determined than ever to make that next step.

“I’m delighted as I’ve worked hard and I’m getting a wee reward for it,” said the keeper.

“I just need to keep it going, as it will soon get taken away if you don’t keep your performances up. So you need to keep playing away and keeping those high standards up.

“I’m just delighted to be here. It’s a great club and I’ve been here for so many years so I just want to stay here for as long as I can. I have been here since I was nine, so that’s Under-9s to the 19s.

“I have seen so many good players falling away since I’ve been here. It’s all about yourself – you have to do things for yourself. If you want it, you have to go and get it.

“I just want to stay here as long as I can, and the only way I can do that is by playing well. That’s what I need to focus on really. It’s just a bonus, getting a contract. The main thing is doing it on the park.”

Read the full and exclusive interview with Robbie Thomson only in Saturday´s matchday programme.
