  • Shane Duffy looking forward to first taste of Paradise

Shane Duffy looking forward to first taste of Paradise

By: Paul Cuddihy on 18 Sep, 2020 17:01

  • SHANE Duffy fulfilled a football ambition last weekend when he pulled on the green and white Hoops for the first time. It’s something that every Celtic supporter dreams of growing up, and the Derry Bhoy was no different.

Now, having played two games for his bhoyhood heroes, scoring in both games, Duffy is looking forward to his first experience of Paradise as a Celtic – when Livingston are the visitors this Saturday.

And while he would love to be running out in front of 60,000 supporters, the Republic of Ireland internationalist is still looking forward to the experience.

“We’ve got to adapt to it because we know how important this season is to this club,” Duffy said. “I had that experience down south so I sort of got used to it. We can’t use it as an excuse so we just have to put everything behind it.

“We’ve got the squad to do it. There’s a top squad here and I’m sure everyone will be used. We want games, and the more games the better for me. It’s something we are looking forward to and the aim is trying to win every game.

“I expected it to be the club it is. It’s different because there’s no fans but everything around it is everything I imagined it to be.

“It’s a special club and feels weird saying I play for Celtic. I still have to pinch myself. It’s a huge club and something I’m grateful for.”

The 28-year-old defender lined up as part of a back three last Saturday against Ross County alongside Christopher Julllien and Kris Ajer, while on Wednesday night at St Mirren Park, he and Ajer formed the central defensive partnership in a back-four.

For Duffy, he’s just happy to be playing for Celtic, and he feels he will benefit from playing alongside his new team-mates.

“They’re top players and great to play alongside,” he said. “It’s getting to know every bit of their game and them getting to know my game as well, and we’re looking forward to Saturday’s game.”
