Debut scorer Shane Duffy in this week’s Celtic View

By: Joe Donnelly on 16 Sep, 2020 09:37

  • THE club’s latest acquisition comes in the form of 28-year-old centre-back, Shane Duffy, a lifelong Celtic fan signed to Neil Lennon’s side on a season-long loan from English Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

He got off to a flier by scoring on his debut in the 5-0 win over Ross County, and that came on his return from international duty with the Republic of Ireland during which he also found the net

Working with new Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has been a great experience so far, says Duffy, whose assistant is Damien Duff, and, as you might expect, the ex-Celtic first-team coach had nothing but positive things to say about the Hoops while Duffy was still figuring out his latest career move.

“One of the first things Damien Duff said to me when I came through the doors at the Ireland camp was: ‘Are you going? Are you going?’” said Duffy in an exclusive interview with this week’s Celtic View. “We first met up on the Sunday and that’s the first thing he said to me.

“He had good things to say about the club, and even on day one in Glasgow, I’d hardly been around the stadium and the amount of people who had great things to say about Damien was great. He’s missed already, clearly, and it was good to hear his great words about the club from the opposite end.

“I had a chat with him about the move and he told me it’d be the best decision that I could make now in my career, so I was really pleased to have him there offering advice. He had nothing but good things to say about Celtic, about the lads and about his team here in Glasgow.”

Damien Duff parted ways with Celtic for family reasons after 16 months, having helped Celtic clinch the 2018/19 league championship, the 2019 Scottish Cup, the 2019 League Cup and the 2019/20 Scottish Premiership – the club’s ninth successive league title.
