Greg Taylor: We’ll fight as hard as we can to make more history

By: Joe Donnelly on 25 Jun, 2020 13:20

  • GREG Taylor admits that while he’d much rather have celebrated winning the 2019/20 league title with his team-mates and the Hoops supporters in-person, nothing can take away how special winning silverware at Celtic is to him.

Now back training in small groups at Lennoxtown, the defender has enjoyed catching up with his peers on the grass, and now can’t wait to hit the ground running in the season ahead.

“Everyone has back to Lennoxtown in really good shape, having worked hard during lockdown,” said Taylor in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV. “I think everyone knew that would be the case, but you can never actually know until you turn up.

“Everyone has put in the effort, though, you can see that, and the boys are raring to go. I think everyone will tell you that, the boys have loved having that bit of normality back and they’ve loved getting back into training."

Taylor said that while he and peers have kept fit over the last several weeks, nothing beats kicking a ball – something which he hasn’t had many opportunities to do during lockdown.

Despite having just concluded his debut season at Paradise, the full-back well-understands what’s at stake in the forthcoming campaign, and wants to do everything he can to help the champions create history once more.

He added: “The first few days back at Lennoxtown, we did a few dribble tracks and it was great. We’ve not really had the chance to play with a ball during lockdown, there’s been the odd time going down the park individually, trying to work whenever you could, but we were limited to solo exercise. There were maybe a few rusty touches, but that’s to be expected. But the standards are high, and the boys are right at it.

“Once the league fixtures get announced, we’ll be straight in there to check them. The first league fixture is August 1st and that can’t come quick enough. This season is a massive season in terms of the history of the club, but it’s one we all look forward to.

“We’re all at the place we want to be and that’s in the middle of it. That’s exactly what we’ll be doing – fighting as hard as we can to create that bit of history.”
