Edouard hails team-mates and fans after winning Player of the Year

By: Joe Donnelly on 11 Jun, 2020 10:01

  • ODSONNE Edouard is delighted to have been named the Dafabet Celtic Player of the Year for 2019/20, and he praised his team-mates and the Paradise faithful for their part in him winning the accolade.

With 28 goals to name across all competitions this campaign, 22 of those scored in the league, the Frenchman acknowledged the hard work and effort required to ascertain these numbers, and said that had the league concluded in normal circumstances, he’d have expected to raise those tallies higher still.

“Winning this award is very good for me, because I worked hard this year,” said Edouard in an interview with Celtic TV. “I’m very happy to be the Player of the Year, and a big thanks to all the fans who voted for me.

“If the league hadn’t stopped, I think I could have scored 30 goals or more, but 28 is still okay. I’m okay with this number!”

Edouard hailed his colleagues, and admitted this year’s Player of the Year could have been awarded to a whole number of stars in the Hoops dressing room. One player he’s particularly enjoyed pairing with on the pitch is striking partner Leigh Griffiths – and now the 22-year-old looks forward to reuniting with him and the rest of Neil Lennon’s squad in the coming weeks.

He added: “There are a lot of players who deserved the Player of the Year award at Celtic this season, so it gives me a lot of confidence to receive the most votes. That makes me very happy.

Leigh is a great player, and to play alongside him is great for me and it’s also great for the team. He scores a lot of goals, I score a lot of goals; he gives me a lot of assists, I give him a lot of assists – it’s a good partnership. I now look forward to getting back to Lennoxtown and back to training.”

The Celtic View is the Voice of the 9-in-a-row champions and we’re celebrating an incredible football success under Neil Lennon with a special 100-page issue, which will be out on June 22, and includes an exclusive interview with Odsonne Edouard.
