The Story Of… The Line of Duty: Vicky McClure’s Celtic Park Promise

By: Joe Donnelly on 29 May, 2020 17:01

  • 'The Story Of' is a web series dedicated to small but special tales from Celtic’s illustrious history. Here, esteemed actor Vicky McClure discusses her prospective plans to visit Paradise.

LIKE actor Stephen Graham, Vicky McClure has developed a soft spot for Celtic courtesy of friend and on-screen colleague Martin Compston. As such, while chatting in the Celtic View’s bumper Christmas 2019 issue, the This Is England and Broadchurch star admitted she’d love to visit Paradise at some point down the line.

“Celtic are playing tonight?” asked the BAFTA-winning actor, speaking to the Celtic View over the phone the afternoon of the Hoops’ UEFA Europa League encounter with Rennes at Paradise last year. “Martin’s social media timeline will be full of that, then!”

Martin, of course, is close friend and lifelong Celtic fan Compston, who McClure shares centre-stage with in Jed Mercurio’s acclaimed BBC cop drama Line of Duty as DS Steve Arnott and DC Kate Fleming.

Last season, co-star Compston was spotted at Celtic Park with the aforementioned Graham, the latter of who also featured in both Line of Duty’s fifth season and Shane Meadows’ This Is England. McClure, a long-serving Notts County supporter, said she’s keen to follow suit.

“I would love to come to a game at Celtic Park,” added McClure. “I would absolutely love to! I’m sure there have been plans at some point over the years, Martin’s mentioned it to me, but it’s just not worked out. I adore Scotland, whether it’s Glasgow, Edinburgh, wherever I am, I think it’s the people. I love it.

“I remember seeing the advert ‘People Make Glasgow’ when I was there, and I just thought that was so true. You can’t have a bad time there. Hopefully one day Martin will get me up there. And I want the full swing, I want a helicopter, I want the full treatment and I’ll leave that all to him!”
