Ryan, James, Chris and Mikey next on the postman’s trophy round

By: Joe Donnelly on 21 May, 2020 17:31

  • FOLLOWING on from Callum McGregor and Leigh Griffiths’ special delivery yesterday, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, Christopher Jullien and Ryan Christie are the latest Celts to get their hands on the club’s ninth successive Premiership title from home.

Once more adhering to current social distancing practices, the top-flight trophy was dropped off on the doorsteps of the four Hoops stars, who took great delight in handling Scottish football’s top prize following a season of hard work and top-class performances.

Besides Scott Brown, James Forrest is the only other Celt to have been part of all nine league-winning campaigns – the pair becoming the first Paradise players to do so since Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox during their own nine-in-a-row triumph of the 1960s and ‘70s.

Mikey Johnston scored Celtic’s first goal of the 2019/20 domestic trail, and has two goals in the running for the club’s Goal of the Season Award, in association with Magners, as featured above.

Ryan Christie finished the season with 20 goals and 16 assists. Given the premature conclusion of this year’s Scottish football calendar, it seems a shame that the 25-year-old midfielder was deprived of the chance to push that tally higher still.

Celtic’s ninth consecutive league title is, of course, Christopher Jullien’s first, having joined Paradise in the summer of last year. With seven goals to his name – including matchwinners against Lazio in the UEFA Europa League and Rangers in the 2019 League Cup final – the towering centre-half has more than earned his Player of the Year nomination for the 2019/20 campaign.
