    The View’s Favourite… Derby win: five-star title-winning Celts

By: Joe Sullivan on 31 Mar, 2020 19:01

  • ‘The View’s Favourite’ is a daily web series that explores the Celtic View team’s fondest Hoops memories on a specific theme. Every Friday, we’ll turn it over to our Twitter followers to vote a winner and be included in an end-of-week round-up.

This week, we’re talking favourite Glasgow derbies. Today, Joe Sullivan looks back on a title party to remember at Paradise.

    GAME: Celtic 5-0 Rangers
    Scottish Premiership, Celtic Park
    April 29, 2018

‘Derby games eh…These are the games that keep you awake at night – the night before in anticipation of what’s to come, and the night after for one of two totally different reasons…

You are either replaying every goal in your mind (or on YouTube) for a win, or you’re repeating “What if?...What if?...If only he had done this…?” You’re saying these over and over in your head if the result went horribly wrong.

Now, I’ve seen a myriad of derby games down through the years, and that triangle between Celtic Park, Ibrox and Hampden is where countless dreams have gone missing and sunk without trace for thousands of fans on both sides of the divide.

So what game to pick? You know, it’s like being a wean in a sweetie shop when you’re faced by a mouth-watering array of delights, but you have to choose just one.

Off the top of my head is the 4-2 game, the 6-2 game or either of the two 5-1 games from the Invincible season. I was going to go for the second of the 5-1 games – the one at Ibrox, but instead I've opted for a game that came exactly a year to the day after that, the 5-0 title-clinching derby at Celtic Park.

What’s not to like – sealing seven-in-a-row against your greatest rivals with room to spare and a raft of goals to keep you up all night,

Pick of the bunch, though, was James Forrest’s Jinky-esque work of art to make it 3-0 just before the break. Now, as a rule, derby-goal celebrations in the stands may not be very PC, but the highlight of that particular merriment was PC Lustig wearing the polis hat.

I wonder how the real polisman slept that night - derby daze indeed!’
