Celtic delighted to sign top young Spanish striker, Anita Marcos

By: Paul Cuddihy on 18 Feb, 2020 14:15

  • AS the Scottish Women’s Premier League 2020 season gets set to kick off this weekend, Celtic are delighted to have signed Anita Marcos, who has joined the club on loan from Atletico Madrid.

The 19-year-old forward is one of the most exciting young players in Europe, and has already won two league titles with Atletico, as well as twice helping Spain lift the Under-19 European Championship.

Anita is the latest addition to Fran Alonso’s squad, who have already played two League Cup ties, winning 6-0 at the weekend. Now they are gearing up for the league curtain raiser this Friday night against reigning champions, Glasgow City.

For the 19-year-old Spanish striker, who will wear the No.7 jersey for the Hoops, it’s an exciting move in her career, and her aim is to help deliver success to the club. And she will have her first training session with her new team-mates this afternoon (Tuesday).

Speaking to the official Celtic website, Anita said: “I’m very happy because, for me, it’s a very good opportunity. I took this decision to come to Celtic because I want to grow and I want to win things with this club.

“I watch a lot of football so I know Celtic is a very big club. I’ve watched the games and I can see the passion, which is awesome.

“This afternoon will be my first training session, which I’m very excited about and I’m looking forward to it. I just want to meet my new team-mates, start playing football, score goals and start a new season with Celtic.”

Celtic kick off the new 2020 league season this Friday night (February 21) with a home game against Glasgow City at the K-Park Training Academy, East Kilbride (KO:7.30pm).
