  • Odsonne Edouard is January's Premiership Player of the Month

Odsonne Edouard is January's Premiership Player of the Month

By: Joe Donnelly on 11 Feb, 2020 15:31

  • ODSONNE Edouard was well-deserving of the Ladbrokes Premiership Player of the Month award for January, and the French striker aims to continue building on his impressive form. To that end, he's already netted four goals for the Hoops in February.

Speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s (Wednesday) Premiership encounter with Hearts at Paradise, the 22-year-old said: “This is the second time I’ve received this award this season, and hopefully I can continue adding to this. Personally, I’m feeling very good, but the fact that the team is playing well reflects on me as well. I’m a striker, so my job is to score goals, so I feel good this season.”

Rested against Clyde last weekend, Edouard is looking forward to this week’s fixtures, which see the Hoops host Hearts tomorrow, before travelling to Pittodrie on Sunday. Should Neil Lennon field both Edouard and Leigh Griffiths up front, the Frenchman is confident the two of them can continue to impress.

He added: “I feel really good about the partnership Leigh and I have had this year so far. Leigh is a great player, and we’ve complemented each other very well. He can obviously score goals as well, so that’s great for us as a team.

“Our partnership has come naturally, and it’s not that we’re working on it necessarily, but it’s more that it becomes a habit and that’s what we need to be able to deliver.”

With 24 goals under his belt so far, Edouard is currently the Scottish Premiership’s top scorer. The forward admitted that while this accolade marks a personal target, winning more silverware between now and the end of the campaign is priority.

“At this stage in the year, the games come very quickly,” Edouard continued. “We need to be very focused on each game so that we can deliver good performances.

“To be the top scorer in the league was a personal objective of mine, but the most important thing for me is that the team wins titles. We still have two more to win. Everything else comes after that.”
