    (McGrath 34 & 41, Dembele 51, Connell 63)

    CLYDE… 1
    (Johnston 32)

CELTIC produced a superb performance to beat Clyde 4-1 in the City of Glasgow Cup tonight (Tuesday). The Hoops went behind in the game but responded impressively to record the win.

Tommy McIntyre’s side started the game on the front foot, and Barry Coffey was the first to test the Clyde goalkeeper with a shot from 25 yards after six minutes, and that was closely followed by chances for Cameron Harper and Kieran McGrath, but Clyde’s goal remained intact.

In the 24th minute, Luca Connell fired a free-kick from the edge of the box that the Clyde keeper did well to save, and three minutes later, Connell came close again with a shot from just outside the area.

Having been on the back foot for most of the game, Clyde took the lead against the run of play just after the half-hour mark when Chris Johnston controlled a cross into the box before firing off a low shot into the bottom corner of the Celtic net.

That goal stung the Hoops into action, however, and two minutes later they were level. Connell delivered a dangerous cross into the Clyde box and McGrath touched the ball home.

Having restored parity, Tommy McIntyre’s side then took a well-deserved lead four minutes before the break and it was McGrath who grabbed his second of the night.

Some slick passing on the edge of the area ended with Coffey floating a cross in. McGrath's header came back off the crossbar but he manage to tuck home the rebound to give the Hoops a 2-1 half-time lead.

Six minutes into the second-half and Karamoko Dembele extended Celtic’s lead with a stunning shot from 20 yards that left the Clyde keeper with no chance. And Luca Connell made it 4-1 just after the hour mark with another stunning strike.

McGrath came close to grabbing a hat-trick in the 70th minute, but the Clyde defence managed to clear the danger. And Adam Brooks, on as a substitute for McGrath was denied by a brave save from the goalkeeper.

CELTIC: Hughes, Savoury, Church, Hjelde, Welsh, Connell, Dembele (McBride 87), Coffey, McGrath (Brooks 77), Burt (Wylie 87), Harper (Oko-Flex 59).
    Subs: Mullen, McKay, Paterson
