Patryk Klimala:Joining a massive club like Celtic is right move for me

By: Tony Connelly on 14 Jan, 2020 14:01

  • IN an exclusive interview with Celtic TV, Patryk Klimala spoke of his excitement at the move to the Scottish champions and and he explained that he's now eager to show the Celtic fans what he can do.

“It’s a big moment for me and I’m very excited,” said the Polish under-21 internationalist. “I’m very happy to be here at such a massive club.

“The last 24 hours were intense. I was waiting for the decision to be finalised so I could finally come here and meet everyone. I had the chance to see the stadium and I felt the atmosphere. It was amazing so I’m looking forward to playing here in front of the fans. I’m very happy that everything is finished now and looking good.”

As a teenager, Klimala learned his trade at local club, Lechia Dzierzoniow, and then Legia Warsaw’s academy before moving to Jagiellonia Białystok.

He gained first-team experience with a season-long loan at Wigry Suwalki where he scored 13 goals in 28 appearances during the 2018/19 season. He broke into the Jagiellonia Białystok last season and his performances in the current campaign have attracted interest from across Europe.

The 21-year-old forward said that signing for Celtic is a big step-up in his career but insisted he is ready to prove his worth.

“I understands how massive a club Celtic is, but I feel I’m ready for this now,” said Klimala. “I’m looking forward to playing for a club with such a big history and I know Celtic are a huge club in Europe. I want to give fans a lot of happiness and hopefully score a lot of goals for Celtic.”

Klimala joins a list of Polish players to have played for the club, including the likes of Artur Boruc, Maciej Żurawski and, further back, Dariusz Dziekanowski and Dariusz Wdowczyk.

Żurawski recently spoke very positively about Patryk Klimala and the new Bhoy is delighted to have earned the praise of the former Hoops striker.

“I haven't spoken personally to Maciej Żurawski,” said Klimala, “but I read his interview in the press where he said some very nice things about me and said I was making the right choice. Hopefully I can have the chance to speak with him to thank him for his kind words.”

Patryk Klimala will be officially unveiled at Celtic Park tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3pm.
