Barry Coffey signs new two-year deal at Paradise

By: Joe Donnelly on 10 Jan, 2020 16:35

  • CELTIC are delighted to announce that 18-year-old midfielder Barry Coffey has extended his stay at Paradise until the summer of 2022. The U-19 Ireland internationalist pens his new two-year deal two years after first signing for the club in the summer of 2017.

Coffey’s hard work in Tommy McIntyre’s reserves last campaign saw him called up to the Scottish champions’ pre-season training camp in Austria and Switzerland in June. There, he played for the senior side for the first time against SC Pinkafeld.

In the weeks that followed, Coffey represented his country at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship, and is now determined to work hard to keep himself in Neil Lennon’s wider plans at club level.

Speaking at Celtic Park, Coffey said: “I’m over the moon and it’s nice to finally get the new deal over the line. I’m delighted and it’s nice to celebrate the hard work over the last two years that’s led to this point. Now, I can’t wait to get to work and continue to prove my worth at this great club.

“At the start of the season, it was an unreal experience to be involved with the first team and to play a few games in Austria. And then I was away with Ireland U-19s at the Euros, which was another fantastic experience. Now, I’ll work as hard as I can at Celtic, and can hopefully catch the gaffer’s eye again.”
