Bolingoli excited to make Hoops return against Cluj

By: Tony Connelly on 11 Dec, 2019 19:15

  • BOLI Bolingoli said he was looking forward to making his return in Thursday night’s UEFA Europa League game and said Celtic are determined to end the group stages with a win against Cluj.

The Belgian defender has been out since picking up an injury against Hibernian in last month’s League Cup semi-final at Hampden, but he is now ready to begin playing again. He travelled with the squad out to Romania today for the final game of the group stages.

Celtic have already guaranteed top spot in the group, but Bolingoli said the team are determined to continue their unbeaten run in the competition.

“I’m looking forward to the game,” he said. “I’ve been injured for a few weeks. Tomorrow will be an important game for us to finish 2019 with a win in the Europa League group stages. Every game is important for us. Even though we have already qualified for the next round, I think tomorrow is important to win. The coach and the whole team has come here to win this game and we’re going to give everything to do that tomorrow.”

Neil Lennon said he would utilise his squad for tomorrow’s game in Romania and would look to give some minutes to players who haven’t featured as much recently. And Bolingoli said the changes would give some players the opportunity to make a case for a regular place in the team.

“We have a big squad with a lot of quality players,” he said. “It’s important and good for the others to get their chances. The players who have played a lot of games can get a rest and this gives the other players the chance to show their qualities and get minutes.”
