Neil Lennon: Lack of pressure makes Celtic a threat in Cluj game

By: Tony Connelly on 12 Dec, 2019 09:09

  • NEIL Lennon said the lack of pressure on Celtic in tonight's Europa League game will make them a dangerous opponent for CFR Cluj. Celtic arrived in Romania last night (Wednesday) ahead of their final game of the group stages of the competition.

Having drawn one and won four, the Scottish champions have already guaranteed top spot in the group, regardless of tonight’s result. Cluj, on the other hand, need a point to qualify for the knockout stages.

“We’re not going to make it easy for them,” the Celtic manager said. “We’re here to play. There’s no pressure on us, which is a novelty for us. There’s no pressure and that makes us a dangerous opposition for anyone.

“We’re here to be competitive and to win. We’ve had a fantastic campaign. We have to respect the opponent and we can take a huge amount of pride in what we’ve achieved in the group. We’re delighted we’ve topped the group and we’re looking forward to the Europa League in the second half of the season.”

With such a busy schedule in December, and Celtic having already qualified, Neil Lennon said he would rest some players and give other members of the squad the chance play.

“Forster, Brown, McGregor, Edouard, Rogic and Christie haven’t travelled,” he said. “We’re going to use the squad for this game. In this busy month there are some players who need game-time and this is an ideal situation to give those players extra motivation.

“Scott Robertson and Karamoko Dembele are in the squad, but whether they start is another matter. The likes of Griffiths, Sinclair, Bitton, Bauer and Gordon will all feature tonight.”
