  • Elyounoussi excited by Celtic form after semi-final double

Elyounoussi excited by Celtic form after semi-final double

By: Tony Connelly on 02 Nov, 2019 21:16

  • MOHAMED Elyounoussi summed up Celtic’s League Cup semi-final performance as excellent and admitted the only downside of the evening was failing to secure his hat-trick.

Elyounoussi scored twice in the 5-2 win against Hibs as Celtic extended their winning run in domestic cup ties to 30 and booked their place in next month’s League Cup final.

It was another impressive performance from Neil Lennon’s side and Elyounoussi took his Celtic goal tally to seven in 10 appearances.

The Norwegian winger was happy to see Celtic secure a place in the final but said he was disappointed in himself for not bagging a hat-trick and building on his impressive start with the Hoops.

“We played well and are in the final so I'm really pleased,” said the 26-year-old. “I'm more frustrated that I didn’t score more. I almost scored a hat-trick but it came off the post. I'm little bit frustrated by that but everyone was excellent today.

“I appreciate the minutes the manager has given me and the belief he has shown in me. I'm happy to give him by something back, so hopefully I can create more chances and add some assists as well.

“I’m enjoying being a Celtic player at the moment. I'm here to be a better football player and win titles. We’re in the final and we will enjoy it today, but from tomorrow we will start work on Lazio.”

Celtic now have a League Cup final to look forward to and sit top of the Scottish Premiership and their Europa League group. Elyounoussi said that confidence is high within the squad and added the recent results have intensified the determinationto continue building towards more success.

“We are hungry for more,” he said. “Every game we play we want to win so we’ll keep working hard in training and I'm sure the manager will keep us motivated and keep the standard high. If we maintain this level we can beat any team and have a really successful season.

“The confidence is really good at moment. All the lads have been good both on and off the pitch. We can feel that team spirit and that closeness in the team. We will keep pushing each other in training to make sure that we maintain the high standards.”
