Neil Lennon: Bhoys delivered on all fronts in Kilmarnock win

By: Tony Connelly on 22 Sep, 2019 16:07

  • NEIL Lennon said Celtic were delivering on all front as he praised his side for their ‘superb’ performance against Kilmarnock.

Celtic made it six league wins from six with a 3-1 win against Kilmarnock at Paradise. The result came off the back of a hard-fought 1-1 draw away to Rennes in the Europa League three days prior.

Kilmarnock snatched an unexpected lead in the game but Celtic’s response was swift and assertive. Odsonne Edouard cancelled out Eamon Brophy’s goal just before the break and put Celtic ahead early in the second half.

Ryan Christie then scored his 10th goal of the season to give Celtic a two goal lead. Angelo Alessio's team were awarded a penalty late in the game but Fraser Forster made a fantastic save to preserve Celtic’s lead.

Speaking to the media after the game Neil Lennon lauded his players for continuing their excellent form in the league.

“That’s was a superb performance,” said the Celtic manager. “I felt the score line flattered Kilmarnock at half time. They had one attack and it was a great goal from Brophy. He had a bit of luck with the deflection but before that we peppered their goal.

"We hit the post, worked the keeper on a number of occasions. We thoroughly merited the equaliser when it came and I asked for more of the same in the second half.

“Some of the play for 15/20 minutes after half-time was absolutely outstanding. It’s a great performance against a team who don’t concede much. They don’t concede much and the goalkeeper made some world class saves. There was one to deny Ntcham just after half-time which I thought it was in but it was a brilliant save.

“I’m getting everything I want form this team. We’re working the goalkeeper and we’re creating lots of chances. This came off the back of a really good performance on Thursday night and we’ve cemented our league form with a brilliant display today.”

Moritz Bauer impressed in his first Celtic start and his manager singled the Austrian out for praise along with the many of the other players in the squad.

“I’m so happy with Odsonne and Ryan,” said Neil Lennon. “They deserve everything they. Forrest was outstanding today and was a real catalyst for a lot of good things. Ntcham had a great game and all-round we looked a very competent side to the point my goalkeeper saved a penalty.

"Bauer came in and had an excellent debut and Bolingoli had a great assist for the second goal. He played well and had good energy about him. The two centre-halves played really good as well.

“I’m not getting carried away, it was a big ask to come back from a demanding game in midweek and put on a great performance but they’ve done it in spectacular style.”
