  • Christopher Jullien's praise for Celtic's goal hero

Christopher Jullien's praise for Celtic's goal hero

By: Tony Connelly on 23 Aug, 2019 11:01

  • CHRISTOPHER Jullien praised Odsonne Edouard for his performance in Thursday night’s 2-0 Europe League win over AIK, with the striker netting Celtic's second goal of the night with a superb free-kick.

However, the French defender warned that Celtic must remain focused on completing the job in the second leg in Stockholm next week. Speaking after the game, Jullien spoke highly of his compatriot and predicted the 21-year-old would continue to excel in the Hoops.

“Odsonne is a really good player,” said Jullien. “I’ve known him for a long time. He’s unbelievable. When I look back to his first year at Toulouse and see him now, it’s remarkable. He’s worked his way to the top and is a really good footballer.

“I don’t think he has limits. He has a lot of quality, he can head, pass, score and dribble. He can do everything and that’s good for Celtic and for him. Since I’ve known him he’s been on his way to the top.”

With a two-goal advantage and having kept a clean sheet, the Scottish champions are in a strong position to progress to the group stages of the UEFA Europa League, but Jullien highlighted the importance of maintaining absolute focus in next week’s crucial game.

“We worked a lot defensively after the game last week,” said the 26-year-old. “We communicated a lot this time. Keeping a clean sheet at home is really important and we did that. We can now see the job in front of us and we just need to stay focused.

“It’s going to be a difficult environment and AIK are going to do everything to beat us. If we are focused and ready for the challenge, I’m sure everything’s going to be fine. We have the talent and mindset to accomplish this. We need that European challenge and I really trust in the team to get there.”
