Kelly Clark: We're focused on delivering cup win over Glasgow City

By: Joe Donnelly on 22 Mar, 2019 13:01

  • CELTIC Women are in action this Sunday when they take on Glasgow City in the quarter-final of the SWPL League Cup. The Hoops face a tough task but will be hoping for the win which would book their place in the last four of the competition.

Ahead of the game, captain Kelly Clark spoke to the Celtic View about the run of upcoming fixtures, which includes the cup-tie against Glasgow City followed by a derby clash with Rangers.

“Eddie Wolecki Black, our manager, has got us set in our ways, we’re training as hard as we can with each session and, in turn, take each game as it comes,” she said.

“We’ve got Glasgow City in the cup this week. There’s a lot of hype for the Glasgow derby after that, before we play Glasgow City again, this time in the league.

“Glasgow City and Hibs play each other the same week that we play Rangers, so that’s an important weekend. As players, these are the games you want to play in, and it’s a really exciting couple of weeks for us.”

Clark, who recently made her 150th appearance for the Hoops, is looking forward to the season ahead and believes it’s a good time for Celtic to push on for some silverware, while the profile of the women’s game will increase with Scotland’s participation in the forthcoming World Cup.

“It’s an absolute honour to have played so many games Celtic, and it’s a big year for women’s football in Scotland, too,” she said. “The ‘A’ Squad are playing in the World Cup over in France this summer, and you’ve seen everything going on with companies making specific kits for their women’s teams.

“To this end, I think this is the right time for the Celtic Women’s team to step up and push to be the best in the country, which is where we want to be and have the potential to be.
