French fan gets set for cycle to Paradise

By: Newsroom Staff on 14 Mar, 2019 09:37

  • WITH less than a week to go until he sets off on his unique cycling challenge, excitement is building for French-born Celtic fan, Malo Camus.

Malo was born in Brittany in the Northwest of France, which is one of six territories considered to be a Celtic nation. As a big football fan with Celtic roots, Malo has had a keen interest in Celtic Football Club from a young age.

Having attended university in Scotland, Malo is also familiar with the work of Celtic FC Foundation and quickly recognised the importance of the club’s charitable heritage.

Malo is now looking to raise funds for the Foundation by taking on the enormous task of cycling around 800 miles, from his hometown in Brittany to Celtic Park.

He will set off on his journey on Saturday, March 16, with the aim of arriving in Glasgow in time for Celtic’s SPFL clash with Rangers on Sunday, March 31. Proud of his Celtic roots, Malo has planned his cycle route to allow him to explore as many of the Celtic nations as possible. This will see him cycle through Brittany, Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

Speaking of the challenge ahead, Malo said: “It’s a strange feeling, as I’m excited and can’t wait to start but I am also nervous and anxious too.

“My training has been going well and I feel like I’m in a good condition to get started. Hopefully everything goes smoothly with my travel and the weather doesn’t cause too many problems.”

Malo experienced the incredible atmosphere of Celtic Park during his time in Scotland but he is particularly looking forward to sampling his first Glasgow derby.

He added: “I’m very excited about the game and I’m really looking forward to going back to Celtic Park, it’s going to be fantastic.”

Through his efforts, Malo is aiming to raise upwards of £1,500, which will be donated to support the work of Celtic FC Foundation. Malo spoke of his delight at the backing he has received so far.

He added: “The support of the Celtic Family has been completely unbelievable. They’ve provided support through not only donations but also a lot of kind messages. A few fellow Celtic fans are planning to join me on the road for some of the stages, so I’m really looking forward to meeting them.

“I love Celtic because the values on which the club were formed, are still present today. My aim is to raise as much money as possible for Celtic FC Foundation, to help them to continue their great work.

“I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me from the beginning, thank you so much.”
