Celtic Women set their sights on three points against Spartans

By: Paul Cuddihy on 09 Mar, 2019 15:31

  • THE Celtic Women’s team return to competitive action this weekend, with a league game away to Spartans on Sunday. The 2019 season is still in its infancy but it took a break last week for international fixtures.

Now the Hoops will be targeting three points and aiming to build on their most recent fixture – a 7-0 victory over Dundee United in the League Cup.

Defender Emma Black is also wanting the team to bounce back after a league defeat to Hibernian, and she believes their friendly win over Hearts last Sunday will prove beneficial when it comes to taking on Hearts.

Speaking ahead of the game, the 31-year-old defender said: “I feel it was vital we had the friendly against Hearts last weekend because it keeps the momentum going.

“We didn’t have any players away on international duty so it was good to get another 90 minutes under our belts to help prepare for this Sunday against Spartans.

“We bounced back well from the disappointment of the Hibs game to beat Dundee United, and after that we didn’t want to have a break in action. The season’s just started so we want to keep that momentum building.

“It is going to be tough because Spartans had a good result against Hibs on the opening day of the season, taking a point from them, so they’ll be looking to push on this season. But we’re well aware of their threats and we’ll be well-prepared for the game.”
