  • Olly Burke: Team morale is high ahead of Valencia tie

Olly Burke: Team morale is high ahead of Valencia tie

By: Joe Donnelly on 13 Feb, 2019 16:31

  • WITH seven wins out of seven and 21 goals without reply, Celtic have enjoyed a perfect start to 2019. Brendan Rodgers’ side will aim to extend that form into tomorrow's (Thursday) UEFA Europa League clash with Valencia, and Olly Burke can’t wait to experience Paradise on a European night.

Speaking ahead of the last 32 encounter, the 21-year-old striker said he’s brimming with confidence at the moment, and is looking forward to sampling the famous Celtic Park atmosphere first-hand.

“We’re in a really good place at the minute,” said Burke. “We’re enjoying some great form, and our morale is high. In every game we play, we look to keep a clean sheet, but I think it’s especially important that we defend as a team and keep everything tight.”

Having played as a centre-forward since joining the club last month, Burke said his role up top is to keep the team going in the last third, and is certain retaining the ball up and down the pitch with be crucial against the La Liga side.

Moreover, Burke praised the ways in which his team-mates have welcomed him to the club, and singled out Scott Brown for indivudual praise - both on and off the pitch.

Burke added: “I’m looking forward to tomorrow night. I know that the Celtic fans thrive off these occasions, and I’m really excited to experience it. We need to have quality on the ball, we need to take our time and go at the right times to break down the opposition and create chances.

“The players have been great with me, too. Scott Brown is a great character and a great guy, a big leader and he will always work his socks off. He’s the kind of guy that will put his arm round you and make sure you’re okay.

"My confidence right now is really high, I’m really happy with where I am with Celtic, and we go into the Valencia game aiming to win."
