Eddie Wolecki Black: This is our year to knock the title door down

By: Newsroom Staff on 07 Feb, 2019 11:31

  • CELTIC kick off their Scottish Women’s Premier League campaign with a home game against Forfar Farmington this Sunday at K-Park Training Academy.

Hopes are high within the Hoops squad that they can push for honours and manager, Eddie Wolecki Black, who has strengthened the team with the addition of four players, is looking forward to the challenges ahead.

Speaking to Celtic TV, the Celtic Women’s manager said: “There’s a lot of optimism going into 2019. I’ve had a good chance to look at the squad over the last six months and managed to add four new players.

“We’ve managed to balance the squad quite well and I’m really happy with the squad I’ve got going into the new season.

“One of the main reasons in bringing the new players in was because I worked with them before. I knew what they would bring to the team. I knew what kind of characters they were as well, so that’s important as well as their ability.

“It’s always difficult when you go into a new job because you have to understand how that club works and what the procedures are. I now feel I’ve got under the skin of all that and I can look forward to start developing the team the way we want them to develop.”

One of the incentives of making a real push for the title is the prospect of delivering Champions League football to the club, and Wolecki Black believes that it’s an achievable ambition.

“We’ll be exciting, attack-minded and looking to score goals,” he said. “We’ll never forget the other side of the game as well, we don’t want to lose goals.

“European football is a challenge we should be thriving on. In the last four years we’ve finished third. We’ve been knocking on that door for a while so we’re at the stage now were we’ve got to say to ourselves, this is the year we knock that door down and get in. We are all looking forward to it.”
