Celtic delight as Scott Brown signs two-year contract extension

By: Newsroom Staff on 31 Jan, 2019 16:31

  • CELTIC are delighted to announce that Scott Brown has signed a new two-year contract extension which will see him remain at the club until 2021. The 33-year-old midfielder, who joined the club back in 2007, has made 506 appearances for the club, scoring 37 goals.

He’s also been a key figure in the club’s many successes over the past few years, having won eight league titles, five League Cups and four Scottish Cups, and has captained the club to a historic Double Treble under Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking to the official Celtic website, Scott said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have signed this new contract extension. Celtic has been such an important part of my life for a long time now, since I joined the club back in 2007, and this really is home for me.

"My focus, as always, will be on doing everything I can to deliver more success to this club in the months and year ahead, and in particular for our wonderful fans, who have given me amazing support from the moment I first pulled on the Hoops.”

Scott began his career with Hibernian, and after five years at Easter Road, swapped the green and white of the Edinburgh side for the green and white Hoops, making his Celtic debut on August 5, 2007 in a home game against Kilmarnock.

He scored his first goal a few weeks later in a 5-0 win over Hearts, while that 2007/08 season saw him win the first of his eight league titles. He’s subsequently added to that with the current seven-in-a-row run the club are on.

He took over the Celtic captaincy in February 2010, and has been an inspirational figure at the club, both on and off the park. And next Wednesday, February 6, marks the eighth anniversary of ‘The Broony’, Scott’s iconic goal celebration which he first did at Ibrox after scoring a stunning goal in a Scottish Cup tie.

He’s made 32 appearances in all competitions this season and has been at his inspirational best as Celtic have kicked off 2019 with four consecutive victories to go six points clear at the top of the Premiership table and advance to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

The Hoops have already won this season’s League Cup and have reached the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League, with a tie against Valencia on the horizon next month.
