Craig Gordon: We're ready to kick on in second half of the season

By: Joe Donnelly on 16 Jan, 2019 10:01

  • THE Scottish champions return to action this Saturday, January 19, when they host Airdrieonians at Paradise in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup (KO: 5.15pm).

After that, they play five games in two weeks, before hosting Spanish side Valencia in the last 32 of the Europa League next month, and Craig Gordon is looking forward to picking up where he left off.

Speaking to this week's Celtic View, the Hoops keeper said: “Ultimately, it’s all about getting ready for the second-half of the season. We had a good first part, and we’re happy that we’re sitting at the top of the league, we’ve managed to win the League Cup, and we’re still in Europe.

“In terms of what we were looking to do at the start of the season by this point, we’ve managed to do that and now we can really push on into the second part of the season, and try to win more trophies.”

Since signing for Celtic in the summer of 2014, Gordon has won four Scottish league titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups.

He's been an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ back-to-back trebles successes, and has impressed the Hoops faithful with top-class performances, both domestically and in Europe. He produced a string of impressive displays last month, and the 36-year-old stopper hopes to carry that form on into the second-half of the campaign.

“I did feel as if I was in a good place," he said. "Things were going well, I was getting in between games comfortably, and I was in a good rhythm playing two matches per week. Everything was going pretty well in terms of the preparation for each game, and I was feeling good going into them.

“I was pleased to be able to help the team out by making a few saves in the last few games, which is always important for a goalkeeper, to make you feel that you’re contributing in that way.

“That’s the main reason we’re there, and it was good to contribute that to the team. It’s perhaps a little bit bittersweet when you make saves and it doesn’t equate to any points, but I’m always pleased to play as well as I can for the team.”
