  • Simon Donnelly confident of return to normal service on Saturday

Simon Donnelly confident of return to normal service on Saturday

By: Newsroom Staff on 07 Dec, 2018 16:39

  • KILMARNOCK are the visitors to Celtic Park for this Saturday’s SPFL clash and with the Ayrshire side only a point ahead at the top of the table it gives Brendan Rodgers’ side a great chance to regain top spot with a win.

Former Hoops striker, Simon Donnelly will join Gerry McCulloch pitchside at Paradise for the match which is LIVE and EXCLUSIVE to Celtic TV. He believes it will be a tough match, but the Celts will prevail against the league leaders.

Donnelly said: “It’s very unusual but it’s credit to Kilmarnock the turnaround is remarkable they deserve their place at the top of the league, it’s up to Celtic to pass them and get that top spot.

“We’ve struggled a bit against Kilmarnock. There have been some difficult games at Rugby Park and Celtic will need to be at the top of their game.”

Brendan Rodgers is hoping for a return to winning ways after Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Motherwell at Fir Park. However, Donnelly thinks that was a one-off and a return to form is just around the corner

“Outwith Wednesday and the blip at Livingston, the form has been tremendous. Since that turnaround at MacDiarmid Park the team has really kicked on. We’ve also won a cup since then and will be hoping for a return to normal service tomorrow.”

Steve Clarke took over at Kilmarnock last October and since then has overseen a remarkable turnaround, taking them from bottom place in the league to their current lofty position. The former St Mirren and Chelsea man has made the Rugby Park side difficult to beat.

Donnelly added: “We speak about it all the time, teams coming and setting up to make it difficult for us. It’s always nice to get an early goal and force the opposition out a bit more. I expect a home win.”
