Foundation Christmas appeal beneficiary: Cardinal Hume Centre

By: Newsroom Staff on 06 Dec, 2018 16:44

  • AS we look ahead to this Saturday’s Christmas Appeal Bucket Collection at Celtic’s SPFL match against Kilmarnock, we continue our look at the organisations which will benefit through the Appeal this Christmas.

Next up in our series is the Cardinal Hume Centre, a London-based organisation which works with homeless young people, badly-housed families and others in need.

The Centre provides support to more than 30 homeless young residents at any one time, as well as hundreds of others who access their day services. By offering advice and support they look to enable people to gain the skills they need to overcome poverty and homelessness.

The donation received through Celtic FC Foundation’s Appeal will help provide a safe living environment and 24-hour support staff over the festive period, for those at the Cardinal Hume Centre.

Patricia Marron of the Cardinal Hume Centre spoke further about the service provided and how Celtic FC Foundation’s donation will help.

She said: “The young people living at the Cardinal Hume Centre are homeless – they may have come out of care, suffered a family breakdown, be escaping gang affiliation or be refugees fleeing violence and terror. With little or no family around, Christmas can be really difficult time and incredibly lonely.

“With college and school closed, the young people can lose contact with friends and support networks, and while everyone else is enjoying the festive spirit, they could be left without anyone. That’s why we are committed to making sure none of the young people in our care will be alone this Christmas, and the support of Celtic FC Foundation is vital in making this happen.

“Thanks to the donation, we will provide extra, round-the-clock support and a range of fun activities for the young people, to make sure they have a safe home and people to share the Christmas celebrations with. It also allows us to provide each young person with a personalised gift.

“The support also helps us to run an essential food store for the young residents, local families in need, and other people facing disadvantage. They will be able select treats for Christmas Day and food essentials for the festive season. Thank you so much for your support.”

The Cardinal Hume Centre is among a host of organisations which will benefit through this year’s Christmas Appeal. It joins Glasgow East Women’s Aid, The Invisibles, St Roch’s FC Foundation, Glasgow City Mission, St Anne’s Primary School, St Anne’s Church, Spirit Aid, Salvation Army Parkhead, Refuweegee and Scottish Refugee Council as those confirmed so far.

Through our Appeal, we’re aiming to help local families and pensioners who face poverty and hardship, and a number of charities who care for those experiencing the torment of homelessness or other disadvantage.

So please help us Make Dreams Come True this Christmas.
