  • Brendan Rodgers: Ryan Christie has the confidence to fill the shirt

Brendan Rodgers: Ryan Christie has the confidence to fill the shirt

By: Joe Donnelly on 08 Nov, 2018 10:31

  • RYAN Christie’s impressive run of form has seen the 23-year-old net three goals in three games. Brendan Rodgers reckons the creative midfielder’s performances reflect his hard work ethic, and the manager has described his recent input as brilliant.

Speaking to the media at Lennoxtown, Brendan Rodgers also praised Christie’s determination to forge a place in the starting XI, having spent previous seasons on loan at other clubs.

“Ryan’s been brilliant in this little spell,” said Brendan Rodgers. “I had a really good chat with him during the week and talked about how he’s doing. To see his progress is a huge credit to him.

“When he went on loan he maybe felt the opportunity wasn’t here, but he’s taken it now. He’s come back as a much better player, he has the confidence to fill the shirt. If he can sign a new deal that’ll be absolutely great for the club.”

Looking ahead to the UEFA Europa League group-stage clash against RB Leipzig, Brendan Rodgers also praised his team’s domestic form but acknowledged the tough task tonight.

“I’m really looking forward to the game,” he said. “The team is on a good level on confidence. We’re playing well and scoring goals.

“Our ability to press the game has been much, much better. We want to bring that into this game, and make it as uncomfortable as we can for Leipzig. We need to do that individually and collectively. Away games at this level are difficult and this is a very good side that we’re playing against. However, we need to show our true face in the game.

“Domesitically we’ve got our form and rhythm back. From that, we feel we can create opportunities. For me, every game is a big game at Celtic. Every week is a big week. This season we’re in the Europa League and we want to get out of the group and go as far as we possibly can. We want to do our very best and that’s all we ever look to do.”
